A Flock of Individuals
A flock of birds were moving
Like an organism
Hundreds of penguins huddled together
In cold and then dive one after another into ocean
Lots of people at Costco
Buying and buying more stuff
What is the difference?
I asked myself
Then I realized some thing very simple
All at the Costco have names
Last name and a first name
Even a middle name
Have a dress which tells a little bit about them
For some a lot
Like the lady totally covered except outlets for her eyes.
The face gives away the place of ancestral home
And once they open their mouth
You hear the accent
And their names
They are individuals
Of different faith, of different race
Of different mother tongues
All good enough to kill and get killed
Despised or revered
Cataloged
Us and them
Native and aliens
Americans and non-Americans
Just looking at them
I could not know
What they do,
What they think of the world around them
What degree they have
Every thing is overtaken
By the urge to forage
Busy in getting some thing to eat
Like the penguins and birds.
