Sampling Trip
I went to Costco
To taste the samples
Given by nice old ladies
Pasta, cheese, juices and cereals
And much more
But I usually don’t buy then.
At work
I got a taste of science and technology
Using a tiny potential
Of the software I use
Of the imperfect methods I use
To set up and analyze experiments
I feel very knowledgeable
By listening to seminar speakers
Their 40 years work in 15 min
Books decorate the shelves
At Barnes and Nobles
And internet libraries
But I have no time
To really read those and understand
Hence I read Reader’s digest
Book digest, book reviews and abstracts
I go on guided tours
Looking at the art and historical artifacts
In different countries
Taking photos
And bringing a souvenir made in China
To decorate my home
Without understanding
Or realizing the true nature of things
Over the weekends
All the social gatherings pile up
The pujas, the slokas, the rituals
Most of us barely understand
What the priest is reciting in Sanskrit
Words in Vedas, Upanishads, Gita and Puranas
Entice us like red balloons to kids
But I have no depth in any of these
My life has been a sampling trip
Full of window shopping
Testing the flavor of cheese slices
In a French restaurant
Without really
Knowing the essence
Of what life offers
