Your Lover was Once a Stranger
As I sit in the metro
Looking at so many faces
From so many places
I wonder who they are
What are they thinking at the present moment?
Like me
Many came from a place
Very different from Washington DC
Many with no electricity or running water
Nor rode a car
Now in the land of plenty
They seek all the best
Strive and stride
Further and further
But they are strangers to me
They don’t know
Who I am,
What I know and what I do for a living
To others I am just a typical immigrant
May be unable to understand even English
They remain undiscovered for ever
Just like me.
Then sometimes
A stranger from a strange place
Gets connected
By alphabets, letters, voice and more
Closer than the closest
And we synchronize our lives
To be together
As if we knew each other all our lives
Siamese twin in heart and mind.
